Why the Sidewall is Your First Line of Defense
A tire's primary job is not actually grip—it is suspension. The compressed air trapped inside the rubber sidewall acts as an initial shock absorber, soaking up road impacts long before the energy ever reaches the metal springs or your spine.
When you run a tire with a "35" aspect ratio or lower, you are drastically reducing the physical volume of that air cushion. If you strike a standard pothole at highway speeds with a thick, tall tire, the rubber compresses deeply, absorbs the blunt force, and bounces back safely.
